Fjord Paradise

Hiking and Fjord Holiday in Norway

Deep in Norway’s fjord country, a small farmstead offers stylish comfort among landscapes that are truly breath-taking. Look up and you’ll be encircled by lush mountains, look down and there’s the fjord – deep, blue and magnificent.  The farm sits next to the Aurlandselva River – a mecca for British angling enthusiasts from as far back as the 19th Century. Today guests come to Aurland for the dramatic landscapes, the outdoor adventures and the peace and quiet. The guesthouse is a recently converted fishing lodge and is ideally placed for hiking, fishing, and other fjord activities. This three night fjord holiday includes guided adventures.

DAY 1:

Arrival to Bergen or Oslo. We’ll help to customize your holiday so we can arrange arrival in either Bergen or Oslo with a train or fjord cruise. We will recommend either train transfers or a self-drive package depending on your travel plans, flight timings and preferences.

On arrival to 292 Aurland, you’ll be welcomed with a bowl of home-made soup in the ‘Smokehouse’ dining lounge – where a cosy atmosphere and wood-fire await. Your hosts, Tone and Bjorn, will welcome you to their home and will be keen to share some local knowledge during a short walk to the nearby Turildfossen waterfall (1-2 hours) which tumbles over the mountainside.

You’ll be ready for a hearty dinner on your return to the farm consisting of local seasonal cuisine such as Norwegian mountain trout, lobster, lamb, goat, reindeer and venison.

Overnight in the farm lodge guesthouse or modern annex in shared twin or double rooms. A family suite is also available.

DAY 2:

Today begins with an organic farmer’s breakfast to set you up for an adventurous day ahead. The morning itinerary starts with a drive through the world’s longest tunnel - Lærdal Tunnel - which stretches for 15 miles (25 km) below the mountain. After emerging from the other side, you’ll return overland by road to enjoy spectacular views and an al fresco lunch at the Stegastein view point overlooking the Aurlandfjord. You will then be able to bike or hike back down to Aurland.

This evening’s meal is served around the open fire in the traditional smoke house before a chance to relax and unwind in the woodfired hot tub and sauna.

DAY 3:

After breakfast, you’ll head to the fjord where your view this time will be from the water. Choose to row in traditional boats or alternatively enjoy a guided sea-kayaking trip.

After lunch, enjoy an easy 1.5 hour hike to a mountain farm to taste some of the local cheese. You’ll be collected by car and transferred back to the farm lodge for your final night.

DAY 4:

After breakfast it is time to bid farewell to Tone and Bjorn at the farm. We’ll arrange a transfer or car hire to match your onward travel plans. Alternatively you may wish to add extra nights and adventures. Please get in touch and we’ll be pleased to help tailor your trip.
